“The Holy Spirit, God with His people”
*
Introduction: “God with His people”. This is fulfilled through the coming of the Holy Spirit. For the gift of the Holy Spirit from God expresses the fullness of God’s love, as did the gift of Jesus Christ, His only Son, “that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” Jn 3:16b. This is the fulfillment of Jesus’ words of comfort and reassurance to his disciples when He said: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” Jn 14:18. In truth, Jesus built in the depth of his people’s heart the intimate union with him as He said: “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you” Jn 14:16-17. In this regard, He still orders His people, saying: “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me” Jn 15:4. “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love” Jn 15:9.
