Communion’s prayer, Sunday IX after Trinity Week from 14 to 19 August 2017

Communion’s prayer, Sunday IX after Trinity
Week from 14 to 19 August 2017
“To God belongs greatness”

Introduction: Saying “Greatness belongs to God” means that He is the Lord of lords who created all things, and that “His is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever”, as it is said in the prayer Jesus taught to His disciples (Mt 6:13). This is why He is the One and Only God and there is no other beside Him, as He said: “To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?” Is 46:5. “That I am He. Before Me, no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior”Is 43:10b-11. God’s greatness prompts his creations to honor and to glorify Him according to the Psalmist’s song: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord” Ps 150:6. This is in fact what He requires them to do, as He said: “If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?’ says the Lord Almighty“ Mal 1:6a. For if God’s greatness terrifies his enemy as it is written: “So great is your powerthat your enemies cringe before you” Ps 66:3b, this is also the assurance that He deserves our trust. For He is great in his love, He does not abandon his people but saves them, as He said to Israel:“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness”Jer 31:3. In this respect, it is written: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Rom 5:8. Trust in God’s love—the greatest love of all !
