“The fulfillment of the promise”

Introduction: “The fulfillment of the promise”. Fulfillment is characteristic of God’s word. The Angel Gabriel said to Mary when telling her about God’s plan for her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,… ‘the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God” Lk 1:30-35. Thereupon the angel encouraged Mary by saying: “For no word from God will ever fail” Lk 1:37. The certainty of the fulfillment of God’s promises is indeed the reason why we firmly believe in them. Actually It is through the fulfillment of God’s words that his glory is revealed–that is his holiness, his righteousness and his grace. The sign of this fulfillment appeared through Jesus Christ, the Son of God. For if it is written: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” Jn 1:1; John also said: “the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” Jn 1:14. Blessed is he who believes in the promise of God.
