Malagasy Lutheran Church Song & Gospel Sunday XV after Trinity 30 September – 05 October 2019 “Learn to love”

Introduction : Love is the nature of God’s children as « God is love » 1 Joh. 4:16. As a result, God wants and makes whoever born of Him have the same nature as Him as it is written: « To all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God  » Joh. 1:12. The strength, the right and the power He gives is love. So the one who loves does not sin because « love is the fulfillment of the law » Rom. 13:10. Surely love is above all things (Joh. 3:31) because it is from God. In fact, it is God coming to men and dwelling in them, and giving them a life of love that they live and show to others around them consistently with Jesus’ word: « Anyone who loves Me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them » Joh. 14:23. Love is a true gift from God, since it fulfills all people’s happiness as it is written: « the greatest of these is love » 1 Cor. 13:13. It is accomplished in the union with God but because of our imperfection which creates a separation with Him, He helps us in our weakness and gives us the Holy Spirit to teach us ( Joh. 14: 26) and to renew us so that we have a godly attitude, which is love because « the fruit of the Spirit is love » Gal. 5: 22. Happy is the one who loves since he is free from the sin of enmity which are selfishness and hatred. He is a child who pleases God. « Learn to love », it is an invitation to receive God’ s love and to share it with others (Levi. 19: 18), to refresh and save them. The ones who have love are known by God (2 Tim. 2:19), who makes them intimate with Him (Ps. 91:14 / Joh. 21: 20). It is to them that Jesus says: « I know my sheep and my sheep know Me » Joh. 10: 14. God’s children are given the most precious inheritance, God’s love, so they love like Him with lasting love, for « the world and its desires pass away » 1 Joh. 2: 17a but « love never fails » 1 Cor. 13: 8.

Monday 30: Teach our offsprings to love God.
« Impress these [God’s commands] on your children” Deu. 6:7.
Reading 1: Mat. 18. Reading 2 : Deu. 6: 4-7. Preaching: Deu. 6:5.
Introduction: To love God is both the greatest commandment and the believer’s foundation of faith, and it will be the same for their offsprings. For the Proverbs says: « Start children off on the way they should go and even when they are old they will not turn from it » Pr. 22: 6. God will make them remain in His love, since He says: « I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have drawn you with unfailing kindness » Jer. 31: 3

Tuesday 01: Love does good to friend.
“Let us do good unto all men…” Gal.6:10.
Reading 1: Joh.10:11-17. Reading 2: Gal.5:25-6:1-10. Preaching: Gal.6:9-10.
Introduction: Jesus says: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” Acts 20:35. The Holy Spirit delights certainly in the eagerness of God’s people to give in order to do good to others and enrich them in the grace of God (1 Cor.15:2). It is obviously a gain for them as “Whoever sows generously will also reap generously” 2 Cor.9:6. The Apostle Paul finished his race, even to the sacrifice of his life, for the sake of the gospel of God’s grace and said: “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness” 2 Tim.4:8.

Wednesday 2: God likes to care for His people.
« Do not worry about your life » Mat. 6: 25a.
Reading 1: Is. 43: 1-3. Reading 2: Mat. 6: 24-34. Preaching: Mat. 6: 25,31,35.
Introduction: God gives His people a promise of care because He loves them and has compassion for their weaknesses and is with them in all their battles. God’s love is a perfect love; it is a most accomplished example, so it gives assurance to the coward, rest to the sad in heart, strength to the weary, and hope to the depressed. What He wants is that we have a lively union with Him and obey Him as He says: « Because he loves Me, says the Lord, I will rescue him » Ps. 91: 14

Thursday 3: Happy is the one who loves to forgive.
Reading 1: Mic. 7: 18-20. Reading 2: 2 Cor.2:1-11. Preaching: 2 Cor. 2:7.
Introduction: The supremacy of God is that He is not holding people’s sin against them but ―is forgiving‖. Accordingly the Lord teaches us: « In your anger, do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold » Eph. 4:26-27. Jesus taught His disciples this prayer: « And forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors » Mt. 6:12. Likewise He said: « For if you forgive other people when they sinned against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you » Mt. 6: 14. As it is written: « Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered » Ps. 32: 1

Friday 4: Happy is the one who loves God’s Word.
« How sweet are your words to my taste » Ps. 119: 103.
Reading 1: Joh. 10: 38-42. Reading 2: Ps. 119: 97-104. Preaching: Ps. 119: 103.
Introduction: Whoever loves God, loves His Word. Jesus said to his disciples: « If you love Me, keep my commands » Joh. 14: 17. The Psalmist distinguished himself in the love of God’s Word when he said: « I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you » Ps. 119:11. God’s Word is a gain for those who love and seek it, as Jesus said when He advised Martha: « Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her » Luke 10: 42.

Saturday 5: Happy is the one who loves to serve the Lord.
« For me, to live is Christ » Phil. 1: 21.
Reading 1: Mt. 25: 13-21. Reading 2: Phil. 1: 12-21. Preaching: Phil. 1: 21.
Introduction: To serve God is to do God’s will and work. Jesus says: « My food … is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work » Joh. 4: 34. God’s plan for his people is plain as it is written: « For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do » Eph. 2: 10. It is a great honor and trust, for which reason Paul exhorted the believers in Roma in these terms: « Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord » Rom. 12: 11— rejoicing in serving Him.
