MALAGASY LUTHERAN CHURCH Song & Gospel Ist Sunday after Trinity, 6th – 12th June 2021 « The Holy Spirit, the Wisdom from God »

Introduction: « The Holy Spirit, the wisdom from God” reveals that there is wisdom from God and following God, and there is wisdom that is not from God and is not following God. The Holy Spirit, wisdom from above, from God, leads to lean on God with faith and to seek and obey His will. A wisdom that does not come from God is one that does not depend on Him and does not see. Such « wisdom » does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonk His will. It is a human wisdom that does not love God, does not believe or trust in Him. It is an earthly one and it thinks « […] in earthly, unspiritual, demonic ways » Jas 3:15b.The Holy Spirit, the wisdom from God, glorifies God who created the universe, as the Psalmist said, « O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you
have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures » Ps 104:24. Because humans perceive wisdom as a noble quality, they strive to seek wisdom through philosophy, « the love of wisdom ». Philosophy itself is not evil, except when it is not based on faith in God that makes it futile and foolish in the sight of God, it is a wisdom that cannot save. The Scripture says: « For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe » 1 Cor 1:21. Happy and blessed are those who have the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of God. So, God’s Word urges us: « If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly » Jas 1:5a. “For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; prudence will watch over you; and understanding will guard you » Pr 2:10-11. How to get it? Believe in Christ, « the Wisdom of God » (1 Cor 1:24), “Receive the Holy Spirit” Jn 20:22, and let the Spirit lead you (Gal 5:18), for He is “the Spirit of wisdom and understanding » Isa
11:2b.

8:9-24). The Holy Spirit is a free gift from God, and He gives it through repentance, faith in Jesus Christ, and baptism (Acts 2:38). He is the
image of God’s heart that is freely given to those who thirst for Life, as it is written: « The Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let everyone who
hears say, Come And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift » Rev 22:17.

united and go into partnership with Him. It is life and happiness for those who receive Him, as Jesus said: « and let the one who believes in me
drink. As the scripture has said, Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water » Jn 7:38. And the words of the psalmist will be
fulfilled for them: « They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that
they do, they prosper » Ps 1:3.

« I will sing to the Lord as long as I live » Ps 104:33a.
Reading 1 : 2 Thess 5:16-24. Reading 2 : Ps 104:24-35. Preaching 1 (optional). Preaching 2: Ps 104:33.
Introduction : Thanks, gratitude, and thanksgiving which invite to the praise of God are aroused by his Holy Spirit in the hearts of those who are
convinced of his love and receive it, following the example given by his Son, Jesus- Christ, who celebrated: « I praise you, Father, Lord of
heaven and earth […] » Mt 11:25a. So did all the psalms, who were astonished at the greatness of God and glorified Him with the talents they had received from the Holy Spirit: « Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his surpassing greatness! » Ps 150:2.

Thursday, 10th: The Holy Spirit, the wisdom of God, the Spirit of contentment. « Of course, there is great gain in godliness combined with contentment » 1 Tim 6:6.
Reading 1: Mt 16:24-27. Reading 2: 1 Tim 6:6-16. Preaching 1 (optional). Preaching 2: 1 Tim.6:6.
Introduction: He who has received the Holy Spirit of God, the spirit of temperance (Gal 5:23a), has full confidence in God’s providence and
appreciates what He has to offer. He is at peace with himself, free from the cares of this life and the greed, which is idolatry (1 Thess 2:5). For
Jesus said: « Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear? […] indeed your heavenly
Father knows that you need all these things » Mt 6:31-32. And he shall acknowledge, as did the psalmist, and say: « When the cares of my heart
are many, your consolations cheer my soul » Ps 94:19.

Friday,11th: Ask for the Holy Spirit, wisdom from God.
« If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those
who ask him! » Lk 11:13.
Reading 1: 2 Chr 1:7-13. Reading 2: Lk 11:5-13. Preaching 1 (optional). Preaching 2: Lk 11:13.
Introduction: Possessing the wisdom from His Holy Spirit is good and valued in the sight of God, and He wants His people to have it, as He
inspired the author of the Proverbs to say: « How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver » Pr
16:16. His heart that gives is generous, and does not scoff, so that He says to all who come to Him and ask sincerely: « If any of you is lacking in
wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you » Jas 1:5.

Saturday, 12th: The Holy Spirit, God’s wisdom that leads to eternal life.
« For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death » Rom 8:2.
Reading 1: Jn 4:11-26. Reading 2: Rom 8:1-9. Preaching 1 (optional). Preaching 2: Rom 8:2.
Introduction: The Holy Spirit teaches and guides us in the way of eternal life, which is faith and obedience to God in Jesus Christ, who is « the
way, the truth, and the life » Jn 14:6a. Jesus said: « And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you
have sent » Jn 17:3. Carnal wisdom that comes from human mind is a source of perdition, as the apostle Paul wrote « If you sow to your own flesh,
you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit » Gal 6:8. Indeed, eternal life is the
lot of those who accept the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of God, according to the message of the Apostle John: « And the world and
its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live forever » 1 Jn 2:17.
