Malagasy Lutheran Church
Communion’s prayer, Sunday V after Epiphany
Week from 12th to 17th February 2018
“Trust in God”
*

Introduction: “Trust in God”: this is a strengthening word to build one another up in the faith. For through faith salvation is received, just as Jesus said to the woman who had been suffering for 12 years: “Daughter, your faith has healed you” Mk 5:34a. And only through faith one is granted justice from God, and “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” Heb 11:6. In this respect, the Word of God declares: “my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him” Heb 10:38. In other words, this means that “faith is what justifies us in God’s eyes”, fulfilling thus the promise, so that God would listen to the prayers and petitions that we offer to Him. The work of faith is truly powerful, because Jesus said: “if you have faith and do not doubt,…, also you can say to this mountain, ‘go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” Mt 21:21-22. Surely God fulfills his promises to those who trust in Him. In this regard, Jehoshaphat said to the Israel when their enemy was threatening them: “Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful” 2 Chr 20:20. In the same way, the Psalmist said: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this” Ps 37:5. The prophet Isaiah confirmed this by saying: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” Is.40:31. Jesus declared: “Ask and it will be given to you” Mt 7:7a, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father” Jn 14:13. Jesus Christ is ”the author and perfecter of our faith” Heb 12:2, so “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household” Acts 16:31.
