MALAGASY LUTHERAN CHURCH
Communion’s prayer, Sunday IX before Easter
Week from 29th January to 03 February 2018
“God has compassion on his people”
*

Introduction: God has compassion on his people and does not repay them according to their wrongdoings and the sins committed in his eyes, but comes to them to receive and save them. For it is written: “you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins” Mt 1:21. And the Lord confirms this, so when Jesus came to visit Zacchaeus the tax collector, He said: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost” Lk 19:10. What is man before God’s eyes, indeed, that He is mindful of him, that He will care to look for him? It is described by the parable of Jesus: “Then Jesus told them this parable: ‘Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘rejoice with me, I have found my lost sheep’. I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Lk 15:3-7. Surely God shows compassion to his people in order for them not to perish, because his love is great and makes Him say: “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice” Hos 6:6, and He does give a promise of forgiveness of all sins in order to destroy the wall that separated us from Him (Is 59:2), so that the sinners may be reconciliated with Him and may enter is kingdom as “heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” Rom 8:17. What, then, must be done? The Holy Scriptures declare: “In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent” Acts 17:30. So, be courageous and do it!
